Life Transitions Counselling in North Vancouver
Transitions are disorienting even when they are chosen. The old shape of a life stops fitting before the new one has arrived, and that in-between period is where most people get stuck.
I offer life transitions counselling in North Vancouver and online across British Columbia.
How counselling helps through a transition
Part of the work is practical — clarifying what you actually want, rather than what you assume you should want, and making decisions you can live with.
The other part is grief, which surprises people. Even a welcome change means losing something, and transitions tend to go badly when that loss goes unacknowledged.
My approach
Narrative therapy is central here, because transitions are largely a question of which story you are telling about what is happening. Alongside that I draw on attachment-based work where relationships are affected, and mindfulness-based approaches for the anxiety of uncertainty.

Sessions are 50 minutes at $160, in person at my North Vancouver office on West 17th Street or by secure video anywhere in British Columbia. Many extended health plans reimburse counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor, and detailed receipts are provided for every session.
Common questions
This was my choice. Should I still feel this unsettled?
Yes, and most people do. Chosen change still involves loss, and the disorientation is not a sign you made the wrong decision.
How long does this kind of work take?
Transition work is often shorter than other counselling — frequently six to ten sessions — because there is usually a specific question to work through rather than a long-standing pattern.
Is this covered by insurance?
Many extended health plans reimburse sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor. Check that your plan lists "RCC" specifically, as some cover psychologists only. I don’t offer direct billing, but I provide detailed receipts so you can claim.
