Depression Counselling in North Vancouver
Depression rarely announces itself. More often it is a slow flattening — things that used to matter stop mattering, effort costs more than it should, and the days blur together.
I offer depression counselling for adults and young people in North Vancouver, and online across British Columbia.
How depression counselling helps
We start small and concrete, because depression makes big plans feel impossible. Often that means rebuilding a little structure, reconnecting with one or two things that used to give the day shape, and easing the self-criticism that tends to come with low mood.
Alongside that, we look at what is underneath — grief that was never given room, anger with nowhere to go, or a long-standing sense of not being enough.
My approach
I draw on CBT for the thinking patterns that keep low mood in place, narrative therapy to separate you from the story depression tells about who you are, and mindfulness-based and attachment-informed work for the rest.
Who this is for
- Persistent low mood or flatness
- Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy
- Exhaustion that sleep does not fix
- Harsh self-criticism
- Withdrawal from people close to you
- Low mood following loss, burnout or a major change
What to expect
Sessions are 50 minutes at $160, in person at my North Vancouver office on West 17th Street or by secure video anywhere in British Columbia. Many extended health plans reimburse counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor, and detailed receipts are provided for every session. If it would be useful, we can also talk about when it is worth speaking to your doctor alongside counselling.
Common questions
Is this low mood or clinical depression?
That distinction matters less than you might think for starting counselling. What matters is that it has persisted and is affecting your life. If a medical assessment would help, I will say so.
Should I see my doctor as well?
Sometimes, yes. Counselling and medical support are not alternatives, and for some people a combination works better than either alone. We can talk it through.
Is this covered by insurance?
Many extended health plans reimburse sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor. Check that your plan lists "RCC" specifically, as some cover psychologists only. I don’t offer direct billing, but I provide detailed receipts so you can claim.
