Grief & Loss Counselling in North Vancouver

Grief does not follow the stages it is supposed to. It arrives sideways, months later, in a supermarket aisle. It coexists with relief, or anger, or nothing at all — and then people expect you to be through it.

I offer grief and loss counselling in North Vancouver and online across British Columbia, for losses of every kind.

How grief counselling helps

Grief work is not about getting over anything. It is about having somewhere to put what you are carrying, and finding a way to hold the loss that lets the rest of life back in.

That includes the losses people do not always name as grief: a relationship ending, a diagnosis, a career, a pregnancy, a pet, or the version of the future you had assumed.

My approach

I draw on narrative therapy, which makes room for continuing a relationship with what has been lost rather than severing it, alongside mindfulness-based and attachment-informed work.

Who this is for

  • Bereavement, recent or long past
  • Anticipatory grief while caring for someone
  • Loss of a relationship or marriage
  • Health changes and loss of capability
  • Pregnancy and fertility loss
  • Loss of a pet
  • Grief that resurfaces around anniversaries or holidays

What to expect

Sessions are 50 minutes at $160, in person at my North Vancouver office on West 17th Street or by secure video anywhere in British Columbia. Many extended health plans reimburse counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor, and detailed receipts are provided for every session.

Common questions

It has been a long time. Is it too late?

No. Grief that was never given room often waits. Many people come years later, sometimes when a second loss brings the first one back.

Is it normal to feel relief?

Yes, and it is more common than people admit. Relief and love are not opposites, and a lot of grief work is making space for feelings that seem contradictory.

Is this covered by insurance?

Many extended health plans reimburse sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor. Check that your plan lists "RCC" specifically, as some cover psychologists only. I don’t offer direct billing, but I provide detailed receipts so you can claim.
