Youth & Teen Counselling in North Vancouver

Watching a young person struggle — with anxiety, low mood, school stress, friendship pain, identity questions or constant conflict at home — can leave a whole family feeling helpless. Teens often cannot, or will not, tell their parents what is really going on.

I offer counselling for young people aged 15 and up in North Vancouver and online across BC, with support for their parents alongside.

What young people work on in counselling

Anxiety and perfectionism, school and exam stress, low mood and withdrawal, friendship difficulties and social pressure, identity including gender and sexuality, emotional regulation, and conflict with parents.

Trust comes first. Sessions are relaxed and paced to the young person, and nothing is forced. Teens can tell immediately whether an adult is genuinely interested or just managing them.

My approach

I draw on narrative therapy, which helps young people author their own story rather than live inside someone else’s version of it, alongside mindfulness-based skills for regulation and attachment-informed work for self-understanding. My style is warm and direct, never lecturing.

What to expect

Sessions are 50 minutes at $160, in person at my North Vancouver office on West 17th Street or by secure video anywhere in British Columbia. Many extended health plans reimburse counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor, and detailed receipts are provided for every session. After-school appointments are available.

Common questions

Will you tell me what my teen says?

I keep sessions confidential so young people can speak freely — that is what makes the work possible. You will get general updates on progress and themes, and anything involving safety is always brought to parents immediately.

My teen does not want to come. What should I do?

Start with the free 15-minute chat so they can meet me with zero commitment. Most reluctant young people settle in within a session or two once they realise it is their space, not a report back to their parents.

Is this covered by insurance?

Many extended health plans reimburse sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor. Check that your plan lists "RCC" specifically, as some cover psychologists only. I don’t offer direct billing, but I provide detailed receipts so you can claim.
